Alpha Phi was nationally founded on September 18, 1872, and established at UW on March 21, 1914. Represented by its silver and bordeaux colors, the chapter carries a rich tradition rooted in unity and strength. Its motto, “Union Hand in Hand,” reflects the close bonds of sisterhood and the shared commitment to uplifting one another. Symbols such as the lily of the valley, forget-me-not, ivy leaf, and Phi Bear embody loyalty, remembrance, and enduring friendship.
Alpha Phi fosters an empowering and inclusive environment where members are encouraged to grow into confident leaders. The chapter emphasizes authentic connection, personal development, and a strong sense of belonging. Through mentorship, sisterhood events, and shared experiences, members build meaningful friendships and develop skills that prepare them for success beyond UW.
Women in Alpha Phi are highly engaged across campus, taking on leadership roles in student organizations, academic initiatives, and community service. The chapter promotes a well-rounded experience, encouraging members to pursue their passions while maintaining academic excellence and strong involvement within the UW community.
Philanthropy is a defining pillar of the Alpha Phi experience. The chapter supports the Alpha Phi Foundation for Cardiac Care and partners closely with the UW Cardiology Center to advance women’s heart health. Alpha Phi is widely recognized for its exceptional philanthropic impact—raising the most money for philanthropy on UW’s campus and consistently ranking as one of the top fundraising Alpha Phi chapters nationally. Through signature events like the Red Dress Gala, members raise significant funds and awareness, demonstrating their deep commitment to making a lasting difference.
