The Delta Zeta (ΔΖ) chapter at the University of Washington is a values-driven sisterhood rooted in over a century of tradition, leadership, and service. Since its founding at UW in 1914, the chapter has remained committed to creating a supportive and empowering environment where women can build lasting friendships while growing academically, socially, and professionally. Delta Zeta’s foundation is centered on encouraging members to pursue knowledge, develop strong character, and actively contribute to both their campus and the broader community.

Delta Zeta was nationally founded on October 24, 1902, with the UW chapter established just over a decade later. With its signature rose and green colors and the Killarney rose as its official flower, the chapter reflects a blend of tradition, strength, and elegance. Its motto, “Love that is ever steadfast,” captures the enduring bonds of sisterhood that define the Delta Zeta experience—emphasizing loyalty, resilience, and lifelong connection among members. These values are woven into every aspect of the chapter, from recruitment to alumnae engagement.

Delta Zeta fosters a strong sense of belonging and encourages members to be actively involved both within the chapter and across campus. Sisters participate in a wide range of organizations, including student government through ASUW, First Year Programs, athletics, and various academic and service-oriented clubs. This involvement allows members to develop leadership skills, explore their interests, and build connections throughout the UW community. Within the chapter, Delta Zeta prioritizes sisterhood through organized social events, mentorship opportunities, and shared experiences that strengthen relationships and create a supportive network that extends beyond college.

Academic success is a key priority for Delta Zeta. The chapter promotes a culture of accountability and achievement by providing resources such as study groups, peer mentorship, and academic support systems. Members are encouraged to set and reach personal and academic goals while balancing their commitments within the chapter and on campus. Leadership development is also a central focus, with opportunities to hold positions within the chapter, lead initiatives, and gain experience that prepares members for future careers and community involvement.

Philanthropy is at the heart of Delta Zeta’s mission to enrich lives. The chapter is deeply committed to causes supporting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, working with organizations such as the Starkey Hearing Foundation, UW Speech & Hearing Sciences, The Painted Turtle Camp, and Gallaudet University. Through fundraising events, volunteer work, and awareness initiatives, members actively contribute to improving accessibility, communication, and quality of life for those within these communities. This commitment to service reflects Delta Zeta’s broader goal of making a meaningful and lasting impact beyond their immediate circle.

Being a member of Delta Zeta extends far beyond the collegiate experience. The chapter emphasizes the importance of lifelong connections, with members continuing to engage as alumnae through professional networks, mentorship, and national involvement. The friendships, leadership skills, and values developed during college remain a lasting foundation, ensuring that Delta Zeta women continue to support and uplift one another throughout their lives.
