Kappa Delta Sorority (ΚΔ) was founded in 1897 on the values of friendship, academic excellence and commitment to social and civic interests. As sisters in Kappa Delta, we focus on building lifelong friendships and inspiring confidence in women and girls around the world in partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA. UW Kappa Delta also works with Seattle Children's Hospital to raise funds for the prevention of child abuse, providing funding for the Period of PURPLE Crying Program which works to educate new parents to lower rates of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Joining the Kappa Delta sisterhood provides opportunities not only for philanthropic engagement but a lifetime of meaningful, empowering relationships.

Kappa Delta was nationally founded on October 23, 1897, and established at UW on February 18, 1922. Guided by its motto, “Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest,” the chapter emphasizes integrity, personal growth, and striving for excellence in all areas of life. These values shape the Kappa Delta experience, encouraging members to lead with purpose and uphold strong moral character.

At its core, Kappa Delta is dedicated to fostering genuine, lifelong friendships. Members support one another academically, socially, and personally, creating a close-knit and empowering environment. The chapter emphasizes confidence-building, encouraging women to pursue their goals, take on leadership roles, and grow into strong, capable individuals. Through shared experiences and meaningful connections, Kappa Delta cultivates a sisterhood that lasts well beyond college.

Kappa Delta women are actively engaged across the UW community, participating in a variety of student organizations, leadership positions, and service initiatives. The chapter encourages involvement both within and outside the sorority, helping members develop well-rounded experiences and transferable skills. Leadership opportunities within the chapter also allow members to gain hands-on experience in organization, collaboration, and community-building.

Philanthropy is a central pillar of Kappa Delta’s mission. The chapter partners with organizations such as the Girl Scouts of the USA to inspire confidence in young girls and promote leadership development. At the local level, UW Kappa Delta works closely with Seattle Children's Hospital, supporting initiatives focused on the prevention of child abuse. This includes raising funds for the Period of PURPLE Crying Program, which educates new parents and helps reduce rates of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Through these efforts, members make a meaningful impact in both their local community and beyond.

Joining Kappa Delta offers more than just a college experience—it provides a lifelong network of support, empowerment, and connection. As members transition into alumnae, they continue to carry forward the values of friendship, service, and leadership, maintaining bonds that last a lifetime while continuing to make a difference in their communities.
